Assalamualaikum and hi,
A few weeks before we finished studying in Tawau (after 5 years and a half) in 2016, we decided to pay a visit to this place, Batu Bersusun (Basalt Rocks) that is located in Kg, Balung Cocos, Tawau, Sabah.
Since we would be separating and going back to our respective hometowns, we thought it would be perfect to have a day out together at Tawau, without too much hassle on planning, time consumption and budgeting. This place was just 5-10 minutes away from our IPG (campus).
The history of this rocks which is named as Basalt are shaped in pentagon and hexagon, that were formed naturally over the years. The Basalt were said to be the remains of the Mount Maria’s volcanic eruption which equivalent to 27,000 years of age. That was a long time ago. This is how is looks like in this century:
Attention: The rocks could be found along the bay of Balung River but it is advisable to be aware of the flash floods as it could happen without warning. Family who is planning to come has to ensure that children are monitored at every time while stepping on the rocks to avoid unnecessary incidents. (*knocks woods*).
Entrance Fee: RM2/pax (as of 2016)
Facilities: Ticketing counter/customer service, Public toilets, changing rooms, food stalls are unavailable.
